What is it
The two new 2025 MB&F Longhorn Legacy Machines – the LM Perpetual Longhorn and Sequential Flyback Longhorn, both united by stainless steel — yes, that mythical metal in watchmaking — with long lugs, rhodium-plated base plates, glossy black lacquer sub-dials and blued hands. Both also share the price tag of CHF 168’000 + VAT and limited numbers of 20-pieces only.

Why
The Longhorn concept has been 16-years in the making, initially conceived in 2009 whilst designing the LM1. Longer lugs have a charm of their own, but can also appear well out of place on certain wrists.

Personally, the difference between MB&F’s ‘normal’ ones and these longhorns, is similar to that between the Porsche Macan and Cayenne Coupé models: there is not that much of a physical size difference between the latest variants — in petrol (ICE or internal combustion engines), not the abomination they call the Porsche Macan 4 Electric) — but if you have sat inside or driven them, the extra ‘long’ bits in the Cayenne Coupé make a difference; yet, Macan works as well (including for myself) for who want a slightly smaller and more sportier ride (I am comparing Macan S with a base Cayenne here).

Anyway, in 2021 on the10th anniversary of the LM1, a piece unique in stainless steel featuring glossy black dials against a rhodium-plated base plate was sold for a charity, featuring these longhorns by drilling two holes in the lugs – one at the tip of the horn, the other closer to the case – so that purchaser could decide (which frankly is similar to the Porsche comparison given similar pricing for both Macan S and a base Cayenne). The two new 2025 MB&F Longhorn Legacy Machines are a stunning follow-up act to that.

Who is the MB&F Longhorn Legacy Machines for
Just like the distinctive cow horn-like lugs of the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 add something distinct, the two new MB&F Longhorn Legacy Machines also feature that extra edge.

When it comes to longer lugs, they also reminds me of my now defunct Tiffany CT60 collection’s lugs.

Fundamentally, these longhorns are best for those who understand the importance of the brand’s portfolio within the watchmaking industry, and wish to revel in something a bit quirky but not too oft-beaten from MB&F’s usually trodden path.
