The New Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Self-winding In A Nutshell

My first reaction to the new Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Self-winding was to just appreciate them for their paired down aesthetics. Simple, yet elegant. The past two days of the Watches & Wonders have zipped past us like a bullet. With so many men’s watches to cover, the eyes kind of needed something a bit feminine to balance out the steel sports watch mania.

Cartier with its timeless Tanks and Santos Dumonts managed to be a good bridge, but the new Vacheron Constantin Patrimony self-winding watches for ladies of style are the destination we need to momentarily travel to. It is here we find the joy in simplicity, the appreciation for the adage ‘less is more’, and can relax by sinking into the beauty that these fume pastel coloured timepieces are.

The new Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Self-winding are inspired by a historical 1957 Vacheron Constantin reference that featured similar aesthetics. Bringing these to the modern age, VC still manages to retain that classic and ultra-thin charm. On the blue version, the 18K white gold appliqué hour-markers and hour/minutes leaf-shaped hands pristinely help you carve out the legacy of your time.

Basic Specs

Six new references are released, though we will be focusing on the simpler time and date only four fume dialled models. The others are part of the Traditionnelle family and feature a perpetual calendar and as stunning as they are, kind of take away from the uncluttered beauty we are witnessing with new Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Self-winding time and date only models.

All of these feature a 30m water-resistant 36.5mm diameter and 8.45mm thick 18K white gold or 18K 5N pink gold case with or without a bezel set with 72 round-cut diamonds. Two of these feature the deep blue gradient effect dial and two the blush pink gradient effect dial.

Our pick is the more understated blush pink version sans the diamonds in the bezel. Those of our lady readers who love diamonds, fret not; even this version has diamonds as indices. The convex external zone features circular “pearl” minute-track composed of 48 round-cut diamonds. One of the best features of these new Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Self-winding watches is their ability to not look garish or in-your-face with diamonds. VC has walked that line carefully, and these are more Grace Kelly than Beyonce.

Another design feature I like is that the date wheel is matched to the dial colour. And talking about design, frankly, even though these are aimed at women, the 36.5mm sizing make them quite unisex.

Move beyond the case and dial appreciation, and you have the movement. I am glad to note that VC hasn’t relegated ladies watches to the backbencher by simply powering them with quart movements, but rather not only do they come bearing mechanical movements, but thy are also Hallmark of Geneva certified.

The 26.2mm x 3.6mm calibre 2450 Q6/3 is developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin. It beats at the frequency of 4Hz, comprises 196 components and 27 jewels, and provides with a basic 40-hour power reserve.

These non-limited edition new Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Self-winding are announced as part of the Watches & Wonders 2022 March 30 to April 5 (both online and at the Salon).

Quotable

“These new Traditionnelle and Patrimony models perfectly illustrate the Maison’s 2022 “The Anatomy of Beauty®” theme, celebrating the attentiveness to detail. This extraordinarily painstaking care is expressed through the designers’ aesthetic choices and preferences as well as in the meticulous finishing work performed by the artisans. All the components of a Vacheron Constantin watch benefit from this scrupulous attention, even those that remain invisible once the movement has been assembled”.
