The New Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star In A Nutshell
Jaeger-LeCoultre capturing shooting stars on your wrist is just the escape you need. Romance of the moonlight sky and unpredictability of shooting stars is brought today perhaps for the first time. My first reaction to the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star was of amazement. It’s not often one gets to be on the edge of their seats, marvelling at mechanical beauties that are simply too stunning to be true.
My second reaction was to ponder on why don’t brands offer more of these outrageously gorgeous dials on a larger production level? Besides the mechanical adulation, there is an element of real art here that fascinates me. Moon, stars, shooting stars, clouds – elements that we look at from afar are now within our reach. The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star is definitely one of those rare timepieces that marry both the worlds of watches and wonders from Watchers and Wonders 2022.
Shoots Straight At The Heart
Two new models of the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star are announced, a white gold version ref. Q36434C1 with a silvery blue dials and a pink gold version ref. Q36424C1 with a golden brown dial.
Both these version feature the same specs, featuring a 50m water-resistant — I am glad it’s not just ‘dust-resistant’ like some high-end offerings or a bare minimum 30m — 36mm diameter and 11.16mm thick white gold /rose gold case. The case’s bezel, the upper surfaces of the lugs, and the top of the crown are all diamond-set.
This flurry of diamonds not only embellish the case, but also create a visual journey from the outside to the inside, where they continue to sparkle in the form of a three-quarter circle of diamonds. This circle is set into the sapphire glass dial with the help of fine gold threads integrated directly into the glass to anchor the diamonds and forms the trajectory of the ‘star’ of the show, the shooting star.
The dial itself is made of three layers, with the topmost layer comprising a transparent sapphire glass that is “sprinkled with transferred stars and miniature hand-painted (on both sides of the sapphire glass) with clouds and a crescent moon, which conceal the shooting star when it is inactive”.
Underneath is the layer comprising a rotating circular disc of titanium with a cut-out of the shooting star. It is this disc that spins upon activation enchanting the wearer with the movement of the shooting star. And just as the star moves, wearers are exposed to the third layer featuring a fixed disc of silvery or golden metal with a glowing gradient finish.
Basic Specs – New Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star
Inside the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star ticks the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 734 which is an automatic-winding mechanical movement developed and manufactured in-house. The movement powers the functions of central hours and minutes, and the “shooting star” complication. It also provides with an impressive 70-hour power reserve.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star is announced as part of the Watches & Wonders 2022 March 30 to April 5 (both online and at the Salon).
The brand also introduced another model with a similar complication, the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Dazzling Star ref. Q3642470 with pink gold case and leather strap retailing for 75’5000 AUD.
This version features the same “shooting star” complication and is powered by the same movement, and has almost the same dimension for the case — 36mm x 11.11mm — but features a far less intricate dial. This time around, it’s a more plain Aventurine dial featuring diamonds. Still very impressive.
And for those ladies who would like to go all out bling, this is also available on a fully-set pink gold bracelet whose lozenge-shaped links are grain-set with a total of 436 diamonds.
A celestial beauty with a heart-throbbing diamond extravaganza. The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Star collection from Watches & Wonders 2022 really is the stuff that dreams are made of.
“Activated by the movement of the wrist, the shooting star appears on the dial at random moments – usually four to six times per hour – its unpredictability making it even more special. To enjoy the enchanting display more often, the star may also be summoned on demand by turning the winding crown several times”.Press release
