New watch release Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter One is not for the faint of heart
The new watch release Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter One is a red dialled beauty that is elegance personified. Like everything Bovet produces, it is visually striking and features a very distinctive and charming timeless appeal.
The convex red quartz — green or blue quartz (from 2019) are also available as the Tourbillon Brainstorm® Chapter One is being produced in numbers of sixty movements, with the red quartz dial version restricted to only 10 pieces — watch face shows the functions of hours & minutes offset at 12’o clock, seconds on tourbillon, and a power reserve indicator.
The dial also features a date function and a hemispherical moon phase indicator.
The former is positioned symmetrically at 8’o clock, where a big date appears in a circular aperture.
The latter creates magic at 12’o clock. Nestled in the volume of the hours and minutes dial, arises a three-dimensional moon phase, whose dome’s camber masterfully counters the curves of the dial. For heightened realism, the lunar dome’s surface is engraved, and the lower sections filled with Superluminova®.
To accentuate the transparency of the case, the power reserve is displayed via a printed cam that shows the energy available through a “crescent-shaped” indicator placed at 4’o clock.
A “writing slope” — a bezel inclined at 6’o clock — case is one of the most striking features of the Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter One. It’s evolution over time can be briefly seen below.
In 2016, Bovet 1822 unveiled the Shooting Star tourbillon, the first timepiece in an exclusive collection dedicated to astronomy.
In 2017, Bovet 1822 unveiled the Astérium tourbillon.
In 2018, Bovet 1822 unveiled the Grand Récital tourbillon.
In 2019, Bovet 1822 unveiled the Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter One in blue.
Each of these timepieces boasted groundbreaking technical specifications and explored new ways of measuring time, and each was also housed in a characteristic inclined case, inspired by and shaped like a sloped writing desk.
The characteristic incline of the bezel’s plane also required some ingenuity from the artisans who had to develop exclusive and innovative solutions. The bezel and middle are therefore worked in a single piece of sapphire and an upper glass is welded onto it.
Using this concept Bovet makes it possible to diversify and organise the various types of displays by using domes, rollers, discs, and three-dimensional hands to enhance intuitiveness and ergonomics.
The Movement of the Reference R26001
The heart used — calibre 17DM04-SMP — is a hand wound movement beating at the frequency of 2.5 Hz (18’000 V/h).
The watch is pretty gigantic to be honest, with the movement being encased inside a 48mm diameter and 15.50mm thick sapphire — with titanium lugs and case-back — case.
The Extra Impressive Bits
One of the most impressive features of this movement is that it boasts of an incredible 10 days power reserve.
Impressive like everything else Bovet does, the Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter One also has three patents for this movement: spherical winding system, tridimensional toothing with multiple gearing, and double face flying tourbillon.
To complete the classic look, the watch comes on a full skin alligator strap with an 18K white gold ardillon.
Watch Ya Gonna Do About It?
The new 2020 watch release Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter One is one hell of a stunning watch, featuring a sapphire “writing slope” case, flying tourbillon, three-dimensional moon phase, big date, and 10 days power reserve on a mesmerising red quartz dial.
Aesthetically, the moon phase complication is our favourite. It is just so darned different as well compared to the usual moon case complications we have gotten accustomed to.
Bovet’s dial-makers have achieved an impressive feat by setting two circular aventurine glass plates in the pronounced curve of the hemispherical moon phase indicator. The moon phases can therefore be read with a striking realism through the two circular apertures that overlook the dome.
Bovet Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter One is not really a daily wearable watch size coming in at 48×15.5mm. But given its ultra exclusive high-end look, is probably more suited for a once in a lifetime formal affair. Or the watch can simply be the jewel in a collector’s private world of horological art.
Given that the watches are limited edition, they are something that Bovet fans, or even people who just love timeless appeal or exclusivity in their watches, should definitely look into to see if they are the right option for them.
