The Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022 In A Nutshell
After Cartier dropped two of the most stunning LC Tank models ever last year, they now follow that almost impossible feat-to-beat with two more entrancing dial Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022 models.
Cartier is really firing on all cylinders with their Tank family, with new Cartier Tank Black models for 2022 and last year’s popular Burgundy, Green and Blue Cartier Tank Must to boot. But it is these new Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022 models that cement the brand’s modern day quest to set a new gold standard within the watchmaking industry.
Simple, elegant, and traditional dress watches have taken a beating from the more popular daily-wearable sports ‘beater’ watches in the recent few years. With every major brands shift towards that segment, pure dress watches are slowly disappearing from the catalogues. Numerous new microbrands have popped up just in the last five years, and majority of them offer dive watches. Barring maybe Ming, the focus on sexy dress watches has pretty much dived down to the bottom.
In this, Cartier’s insistence for two years in a row to induce fresh life into the Dress watch segment is commend-worthy. These new Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022 not only push forth this ideology, but unlike entry-level Tank Must watches, they ensure that high-end dress watches get the recognition they deserve. Not just that, but introducing them in contemporary coloured-dials and with subtle details that spark interest in the dials, these timeless beauties march along the sorts watch minefields, using the full force of the legacy of the Tank to carve out a great future.
The Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022 are as avant-garde now they were in 1917. They are the gold dress watches the industry needs, especially for the younger generation – not as accessible as a Patek Philippe Calatrava, not as common as a circular Rolex DateJust or the hundred of models of JLC Reverso (in steel); these are just the right shape and pricing — around the 20k AUD — to open up a whole new world of dress watch enthusiasts. A cabochon sapphire, a rectangular case, Roman numerals, and a 100-year old and counting legacy. You simply can’t go wrong with the Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022.
Two new Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022 in red or anthracite grey have been announced for this year, with our favorite being the red / burgundy version. Simmering magical moments can be created thanks to the mesmeric dials they have used – the electrochemical engraving technique they have used creates a visual extravaganza, that for some might ‘miss the point’ given the peripheral rail-road track and every hour marker is missed, but for some the purity of having just 4 markers and a dial that will show its ‘true colours’ under different angles will be a deal-sealer.
Both of these versions feature the manual winding 1917 MC movement and are presented as a 33.7mm x 25.5mm x 6.6mm gold watch with a water-resistance of 30m.
This 1917 MC movement measures 16mm x 2.9mm, beats at the lower frequency of 3Hz, features 19 jewels, and provides with a basic 38-hour power reserve.
And for a change, the inclusion of a manual-winding movement with low 38-hour per reserve is again something I chalk in favour of these being the new much need gold standard for the industry. I know there is a push towards automatic watches with longer power reserves given the practicality, but the bond that gets created by picking up a manual-winding gold dress watch from your nightstand every morning and winding it is purely time-less.
These were announced on 30 March 2022 as part of the Watches & Wonders 2022 March 30 to April 5 (both online and at the Salon) and if I am to go by last year’s pricing of 2021 Cartier Tank Louis Cartier model ref. WGTA0059, then the new Cartier Tank Louis Cartier 2022 should retail for €11’200 / 19’800 AUD.
