In a nutshell
Jaeger-LeCoultre is celebrating its 90th anniversary of the Art Deco inspired timepiece Reverso with the launch of three different Reverso sub-collections: the Hybris Mechanica calibre 185 for the billionaire watch connoisseur, the Reverso One for the ladies with distinctive tastes, and the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds in green for the men in the know.
The sunburst green is by far one of the best executions of this dial in my opinion, and if destiny has it, this is the one watch I wish to buy for myself from Watches & Wonders 2021.
The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Green features the 2.94mm thick manually wound mechanical movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 822/2 that comprises of 108 complements and 19 jewels, beats at the frequency of 3Hz (21’600 vibrations per hour) and boasts of an okay 42-hour power reserve. The movement is encase inside the same 45.6 x 27.4mm x 8.5mm stainless steel case.
My only gripe? I was really hoping for the water-resistance to increase from 30m to at least 50m.
A bit of background
In the lead up to the 90th anniversary announcements, the brand recently released the Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano Burgundy ref. Q398256J in limited edition of 190 pieces.
Unless you are a complete watch newbie or have been loving under a rock, you would be aware of Reverso’s iconic status. Originally designed for Polo players, it features a reversible solid caseback with a blank metal flip side initially designed purely for functional reasons. Over the years this has seen many iterations, but one of the most commonly revered versions of Reverso is the plain caseback that acts as a canvas to an owner’s desires.
“The rich tone of the sunray-brushed lacquer dial and matching leather strap is reminiscent of the deep green of the pine forests that surround Jaeger-LeCoultre’s home in the Vallée de Joux”.
That’s All Folks!
I had a lot of expectations from JLC given it is the 90th anniversary of Reverso. And I am happy to say that I wasn’t disappointed.
Not only is it one of the most iconic watches of the Maison, but it has cemented its legacy in the annals of watch-design history. This 1931 Art Deco-inspired watch has been turning heads (and swivelling dials) for nearly a century now. Admired by both men and women seeking class and elegance, the Reversos are a sub-genre of watches in their own right.
Meet the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Green from Watches & Wonders 2021: it’s handsome, it’s legible, it’s iconic, it’s stunning; and it’s enough to turn any other watch brand green with envy.
