The New 2022 Omega Speedmaster ’57 In A Nutshell
Omega discontinues the FOIS and then gifts fans this 40.5mm diameter beauty in various dial colours, retailing for EUR 8’700 (~12’800 AUD) on leather strap and EUR 9’100 (~13’300 AUD) on steel bracelet. Trust Omega to come with an unexpected twist; following the footsteps of the fumé trend made popular by H. Moser & Cie and recently used in Swatch Group’s Longines Legend Diver Collection, Omega just also announced the Planet Ocean Ultra Deep. I don’t believe I have seen Omega use gradient dials before, at least not in their Seamaster collection.
My first reaction to the new 2022 Omega Speedmaster ’57 Calibre 9906 watches was to simply gape at the burst of colours this 2022 season is bringing; I mean c’mon, a red varnished dial Speedmaster? And of course there is that popular green colour too.
And then watch enthusiasts, especially those with slim wrists, finally have the slimmed down Speedmaster ’57.
The 5W1H Of The New 2022 Omega Speedmaster ’57
The new 2022 Omega Speedmaster ’57 features a 50m water-resistant 40.5mm diameter and 12.99mm thick stainless steel case with a lug-to-lug spacing of 49.6mm and a welcome 20mm lug intern horn spacing. About freakin’ time!
The non-limited new 2022 Omega Speedmaster ’57 is announced today on 7th March.
It’s for those who love the Speedmaster association, but most importantly, for those with slim wrists.
Best Foot Forward
The most striking feature about the new 2022 Omega Speedmaster ’57 series is the use of multiple colours and that paired down diameter and the ease of finding aftermarket strap options with the 20mm lug inter-horn spacing.
The Omega Speedmaster ’57 was first introduced in 2013 and is now presented with a Master Chronometer upgrade and a slimmer profile.
I also love the bi-compax layout, making it less cluttered and easy to read.
There are three versions:
- “sandwich“ black dial edition with recessed hour markers filled with vintage Super-LumiNova
- blue PVD dial
- green PVD dial
- varnished burgundy PVD dial
