The New Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel In A Nutshell
Increasingly all eyes are on how brands can become more environmentally conscious, and Panerai is staying ahead of expectations by incorporating their eSteel in more watches each year. 52% of the weight of the new Paterai Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel watches is now made of recycled materials and the two straps that come with the watch are made up of recycled PET and recycled rubber. These now join the Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel watches that were released last year.
Panerai have also updated their product packaging for all of their watches to be made of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) paper and is produced using at least 72% recycled materials. This doesn’t mean that the box is any less impressive, with a removable travel pouch and a small compartment for the extra strap/bracelet and any tools that come with the watch.
Now, onto the watch itself.
This latest offering comes in three moody tones of green, grey and deep blue in references PAM01287, PAM01288 and PAM01289. They are the kinds of colours that you would picture if you were to imagine diving in a calm ocean, through reefs and underwater caves. The bezel and accompanying straps match the dial keeping the timepiece uniform.
My initial reaction upon seeing these timepieces was that I felt I had already seen these before – as they are matching the colours of the previous eSteel models of the Luminor Marina eSteel collection. Of course barring the case shape, signature Panerai crown guard and very-close-but-not-quite-the-same colours, they are quite different watches, however these similarities make them appear very similar at a glance.
Looking closer you see that Panerai has ventured into a material they have not used before in a bezel; polished ceramic. The press images show this as having a stunning shine which contrasts well with the brushed eSteel and we cannot wait to see this one in the metal.

“The measure of a manufacture’s watchmaking capabilities is no longer confined to the sophistication of the movements it produces or the precision of its finishing. As profound environmental challenges demand solutions, attention turn to practices that reduce the ecological impact of every aspect of the watch industry. Panerai is committed to developing strategies for a sustainable future, including reducing waste and promoting reuse of materials.”Press Release
