The New Cyrus Genève Klepcys DICE In A Nutshell
If the Jean-François Mojon led brand’s new Cyrus Genève Klepcys was a drink, it would be a cool, refreshing glass of lemonade. Nicknamed ‘Lime’ by the brand, it’s an apt description wth yellow and green colouring luring you in the intricate world of two independent monopusher chronographs.

Twice as sporty, and twice as complicated, the new Cyrus Genève Klepcys DICE — an acronym for Double Independent Chronograph Evolution — features a single self-winding mechanical movement that allows the wearer to measure two short intervals of time either independently or synchronised to each other.
And before you jump to conclusions, no, this is not a rattrapante or split seconds watch.

The short period of only 12 years has seen Cyrus Genève push horological boundaries and the new Cyrus Genève Klepcys DICE — in spirit inspired by an Arnold Frankfeld patent from 1873 of a double independent chronograph and by the world of Formula 1 — takes that pocket watch concept and turns it into a modern cushion-shaped bold and handsome wristwatch with a complex 3D open-worked dial.

Quotable
“This modern chronograph is the result of a deep reflection on the role of timing in sports competitions. In many sports, it is often important to measure elapsed times with different starting times. This occurs, for example, in races like marathons or biathlons where athletes do not cross the starting line at the same time or even in Formula 1 – a world very close to CYRUS – where two drivers, during the race tests, start at different times. In events like these, where the starting time is different for every sportsman, the KLEPCYS DICE
Jean-François Mojon
chronograph can measure the times between two consecutive runners or racing drivers. A similar situation arises in car rallies, where it is common to use two independent chronographs. Our latest timepiece facilitates this operation thanks to the two monopusher crowns, which are essential to avoid any unwanted manipulation”.

Basic Specs of the Cyrus Genève Klepcys DICE
The new Cyrus Genève Klepcys DICE features a 100m water-resistant, 26 parts 42mm diameter and 16.7mm thick Grade 5 titanium case with elongated lugs and three-dimensional bezel that is available with either polished/brushed finishing (ref. 539.508.TT.B) or black DLC-treatment (ref. 539.508.DD.B). A feature I like about the case is that instead of featuring two crowns on the same side, Cyrus Genève opts to feature one on either side.
Architecturally, this balances out the Klepcys DICE quite nicely. This was of course needed for the specific Manufacture calibre CYR718’s functionality as well, given the crown at 3 used for winding/ adjusting time / activation of chronograph No. 1 (start-stop-reset) and the mirrored crown at 9 is used as a pusher to activate chronograph No. 2 (start-stop-reset). I also appreciate that both crowns feature different coloured anodised aluminium rings that correspond to the respective green coloured Chronograph 1 and yellow coloured Chronograph 2.

The calibre CYR718 is. 36 x 11.65mm movement comprises 443 components and 51 jewels, beats at the frequency of 4Hz, provides a power reserve of 60-hours, and features an annular balance wheel and Swiss lever escapement. It is also nicely finished with two micro-beaded black PVD mainplates, grey anthracite NAC galvanic treated bridges with embossed sunray pattern, rhodium-plated barrel with snailed ratchet wheel, open-worked monobloc rotor with a sunray pattern, engraved with “The Conquest of Innovation”.

The limited to 10-pieces only new Cyrus Genève Klepcys DICE is announced as part of the Watches & Wonders 2022 March 30 to April 5 (both online and at the Salon) and is a perfect timepiece for those who love the worlds of racing and different mechanical watchmaking.

And for those of you who love this concept but would like a less tangy version, there is also the more conventional red and blue ref. 539.508.TT.A / ref. 539.508.DDA available in limited editions of 50 pieces.
