The New Alexander Shorokhoff Avant-Garde “Square & Round” In A Nutshell
Joining their already-filled-to-the-brim-with-fantastic-pieces Avant-Garde collection of watches, Alexander Shorokhoff introduces the newest member to this collection – the “Square & Round” in a brilliant shimmering red with black sub-dials, black circular scale and silver appliqué numerals and indices. The brand tells us that there will be more colours coming soon and we look forward to seeing these as well.
I think that it’s fairly obvious that the first thing I noticed about this watch was the colour. The beautiful shiny red is quite the show-stopper and the contrasting black deepens the colour so you’re almost falling into the watch as you gaze at it. This is the sort of feeling Alexander Shorokhov seems to be aiming for when creating new pieces – stirring up emotions with the use of dramatic colours.
The colour also reminded me of Breitling’s Premier B09 Chronograph 40 in Burgundy although the red in the Alexander Shorokhoff does look brighter from the press images, and has the unique “Square & Round” shape as compared to Breitling’s typical round watch.
The appliqué numerals at 3 and 9 sit over the top of the subdials – an excellent detail and one that I really appreciate since often brands can really miss the mark with numerals being eaten into by subdials.
This is, however, quite a large piece at 44.5 x 44.5mm so it’s not one that I would be seeking for myself – but for those of you out there with larger wrists looking for a red dialled watch, this should definitely be on your list of watches to get (and to get soon as it is a limited edition of 30 pieces)
Basic Specifications Of The New Alexander Shorokhoff Avant-Garde “Square & Round”
The new Alexander Shorokhoff Avant-Garde “Square & Round” features a 44.5mm x 44.5mm diameter and 14.75mm thick stainless steel case with lug interhorn spacing of 28mm.
Retailing for 2’990 EUR the limited edition of 30 pieces was announced as a part of Alexander Shorokhoff’s 30th anniversary. During 2022 they are also releasing 30 one-off pieces to celebrate their 30th anniversary. They are truly going to town on the anniversary pieces and we cannot get enough of them!
Inside the new Alexander Shorokhoff Avant-Garde “Square & Round” reference AS.SR01-6 ticks the 3133AS, which is a manual-winding mechanical movement. The movement contains 23 jewels, and beats at the frequency of 3Hz (21’600 A/h).
The watch face shows the functions of central hours, minutes, and chronograph seconds, small seconds at 9’o clock, chronograph counter at 3 o’clock and date at 6 o’clock. The watch offers a decent 42-hour power reserve and an okay water resistance of 30m (3 ATM).
“Alexander Shorokhov, the founder and designer of the brand “Alexander Shorokhoff” has again been inspired by colours. In the new chronograph, he plays with precisely these different colours and shapes. This creates emotions that strike the heart. The rich colours of the dials create a subjective sense of well-being. The watches are much more than just a timepiece. They are small objects of art for the wrist and strengthen the perception of color impressions.”Press Release
