Editor’s note: We were kindly invited by the brand last night to attend a Collection Cocktail Breguet Event here in Sydney. It was a welcome excuse for me to wear my Breguet Marine 5817ST. Following is a glimpse into the night.

The roads are still damp. The weather cold. The breeze is chilly, and the night young. After a week-long relentless run of despairing rains, the clouds have parted. Through the rain laden dark clouds now shoots a beam of golden glow, whispering the remains of the first sunny afternoon Sydney has had in a while.

As if the universe has its approval, an exclusive Breguet event begins to unfold, cradled within what’s left of Sydney’s nightlife at the harbour. Nested between The Rocks and the wavy waters that strike the banks — quite like the wave motif on Breguet’s hand-guilloched dials of the Marine collection — is the famed Quay restaurant.

Inside, within the cosy perimeters of a private room, sheltered from the strong winter winds, serenaded by a live harp performance, enveloped by the magnificent Sydney Harbour Bridge on one end and the iconic Sydney Opera House on the other, a watchmaking legend lays bare its horological prowess with select exceptional timepieces on display (including the 2022 novelty Marine 5557 Hora Mundi).

As drinks and canapés flow, the night at the Breguet event begins to warm up. The lucky VIP guests mingle around the selection of watches and a watchmakers desk. Amongst the cutlery clatter of the ensuing three-course dinner deep interesting conversations are heard, abound with one common interest: the house of Breguet. With representatives from Breguet, the Watches of Switzerland, collectors and the media including Mr. Bani McSpedden, everyone shares the spark light by the unified common passion.

Churchill would have nodded in approval. Napoleon would have lent his stamp of approval. And why not? After all, they were both connoisseurs of the same brand. The wave of enthusiasm amongst the crowd collected at the Breguet event is a positive sign of the continuance of this legacy of time-telling.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Breguet team for inviting us to this wonderful Breguet event evening. All images unless otherwise stated are ©Watch Ya Gonna Do About It and some were taken prior to the event.
