Sneak Peek: Girard-Perregaux’s Laureato Absolute Rock in carbon glass

The 2019 Laureato Absolute Rock watch in lightweight and innovative carbon glass case (reference: 81060-36-691-FH6A) marks Girard-Perregaux’s introduction of using patented carbon glass as a watch body material.

The movement — GP03300-1058 — used is a manufacture self winding mechanical movement with a date window at 4.30 and comprises of 419 components & beats at the frequency of 4Hz (28’000 A/h) allowing for a decent (min.) 46 hour power reserve.

The dial shows the functions of hours, minutes, small seconds, date and chronograph and is covered with sapphire double anti-reflective crystal. The dial’s architecture is composed of two superimposed, hollowed plates: the one on top being in black matt finish. The baton-type hands and hour-markers are both filed with Super-LumiNovaTM. The lume filled hands really add to the visibility of this otherwise dark dial. (Please see our detailed review here for more info on the dial face).

The bezel is again in lightweight and innovative carbon glass. It blends with the case and the singular integrated look really works in the maintaining the architectural language of this piece. The whole look also works for people who don’t wish this watch to shout.

The case-back is secured by 6 screws and has an engraved and lacquered Laureato Absolute logo.

It comes on a black rubber strap with a fabric effect and blue topstitching on a PVD-treated titanium  triple folding buckle with a micro-adjustment system.

The water resistance is worth boasting — 300m (30 ATM) — on this one. It means that you can wear this watch to pretty much any situation that you would encounter in the normal daily lifestyle involving water. You can wear this while washing your hands, comfortably in the shower, in the pool, by the beach,  snorkelling, in the rain, almost anything, besides deep sea exploration.

Watch Ya Gonna Do About It?

In terms of use, we would say it is definitely a daily wearer for anyone with large wrists or who fancies large watches. It’s definitely a good looking sports watch and the sub-dials bring about a stealth look to it.  I would usually say that a watch this size is not really a typical office wearable watch coming in chunky at 44mm case size but it’s got a great stealth look going for it. Given it’s only limited to a 100 pieces, I would say wear it to the office with pride. It will not fit perfectly under the cuff for that boardroom meeting, but sometimes its good to be different. It can be definitely be worn over with weekend with jeans and t-shirt or a beach just lounging. Given that the watch is a limited edition, it has made it a highly sought after item for Girard-Perregaux fans and if you can get your hand on one, would recommend getting it.
