Sneak Peek: Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Chronograph Ivory Enamel Ltd. Ed.
The 2019 Grande Seconde Chronograph Ivory Enamel Ltd. Ed. in 18-karat red gold case (reference: J007733200) marks Jaquet Droz’s first ever Grande Seconde monopusher Chronograph.
The movement — 26M5R — used is a single barrel, column wheel, self-winding mechanical movement monopusher chronograph with silicon balance spring and 18-karat red gold oscillating weight. It beats at the frequency of 3Hz (21’600 A/h) allowing for a decent 40 hour power reserve.
The watch face shows the functions of hours, minutes, date and a chronograph on a multi-level ivory Grand Feu enamel dial. The hours, minutes and date hands are in 18-karat red gold while the chronograph minutes and seconds hands are in blued steel. (Please see our detailed review here for more info on the dial face).
The display case-back is engraved along the periphery with an individual limited serial number. The extensive Cote’s de Geneve design to the movement is another added touch of craftsmanship.
It comes on a rolled-edge hand-made dark-blue alligator strap and an 18-karat red gold ardillon buckle [not a clasp which is far more manageable and easy to use].
The water resistance is a poor — 30m (3 ATM) — on this one. Technically this is fine for a dress watch, but in our opinion, it should have been at-least 50m. Presently, you can’t do much with this watch in terms of water contact: maybe one can wash their hands while wearing it without worrying about its water resistance. We wouldn’t even risk it in a slight drizzle.

Watch Ya Gonna Do About It?
In terms of use, we would say it could work as a daily wearable watch, especially for a one watch person. Though it would change with people’s tastes and professions. The Grande Seconde Chronograph Ivory Enamel Ltd. Ed definitely is a good looking dress watch and the sub-dials really add a sporty charm. Given it’s 43mm diameter in size and comes in at 14.83mm thickness, it’s not the size of a traditional dress watch but fits the design language of one. It would work very well in a formal occasion or black-tie event but is not going to fit perfectly under the cuff for that boardroom meeting.
Given that the watch only comes in a limited number of 88 pieces, it can make it a highly sought after item for Jaquet Droz fans.
