Alexander Shorokhoff Kandy Avantgarde 2 – Born To Win
The stunning Alexander Shorokhoff Kandy Avantgarde 2 wins the NY Product Design Awards Silver winner in the Watches – Wristwatches category. Besides a hearty congratulations to the brand, it is also particularly a pleasure for us given we are one of lucky 100 owners of this magnificent timepiece.
This success doesn’t come a s a surprise though; winning accolades is nothing new for the brand. Kandy Avantgarde 2’s predecessor, the Kandy Avantgarde (1) ref. AS.KD-AVG won the German Design Award 2019 and its successor the Kandy Avantgarde 3 ref. AS.KD-AVG-3 won the 3rd Place in the Trend Chrono Award. It was itself nominated in Category B of the Golden Balance Award 2021.
Basic Specifications of the Alexander Shorokhoff Kandy Avantgarde 2
The Alexander Shorokhoff Kandy Avantgarde 2 comes in the form of a 41 x 41mm shiny black PVD-coated stainless steel case with three side grooves filled with 18 carat yellow gold wires. Thanks to the short lugs, the timepiece actually wears quite well on even my slim ~16cm wrist.
Inside it beats the hand-engraved rotor bearing the caliber 2892.AS (derived from the trustworthy and highly reliable (and premium) namesake ETA movement).
The ETA calibre 2892-A2 by default is a 25.6mm diameter and 3.6mm thick movement that is comprised of 21 jewels, beats at the frequency of 4Hz (28’000 vph) and (normally) features a 42-hour power reserve. The AS mod sees the latter go up to roughly ~47-hours. It features an Incabloc anti-shock device, bi-directional winding and quick date setting.
Packing a lot of punch for its low price tag of only 3’290 Euro, the caliber 2892.AS used in the ref. AS.KD-AVG-2 most strikingly features a hand-engraved and refined rotor.

It is watches such as the Alexander Shorokhoff Kandy Avantgarde 2 that make my profession of reviewing watches change lanes into almost a pleasant hobby. As a watch collector, reviewer and enthusiast, I come across numerous timepieces on a daily basis; but only a few have the power to remain embedded in memory.
Generic watch designs are dime a dozen; and especially in a world marred by virus and human crisis, it comes as a welcome breeze of fresh air when products such as this bring to one’s attention a sense of colour and life-affirming imagery. Horology can use more of the likes of Kandy Avantgarde 2 in its evolution.
