Sneak Peek: TAG Heuer Formula 1 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Special Edition

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Special Edition 2020 in the fine-brushed & polished stainless steel case (reference: CAZ101AB.BA0842) marks the second partnership of TAG Heuer with the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team.

The movement — Quartz — used is Swiss made movement with a battery life of approximately 24 months and comprises of an EOL (battery End-Of-Life) indication. Given it’s a quartz movement, the watch has an unlimited power reserve for the duration of the life of the battery.

The dial shows the functions of hours, minutes, seconds, date at 4’o clock, and a chronograph with a tachymetre scale bezel on a blue sun-ray brushed dial. The three sub-dials are black with concentric circles and the indexes are rhodium-plated. (For more info on the dial and this particular watch, please see our detailed hands-on review here).

The fixed bezel is made of aluminium and matches the dial colour of blue. It blends well with the case and dial face and works for people who don’t wish this watch to shout.

The screwed steel case-back is closed back with special Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and TAG Heuer engravings.

It comes on a stainless-steel bracelet and folding clasp.

The water resistance is an excellent good — 200m (20 ATM) — on this one. Essentially it’s good enough for light underwater sports, swimming, wearing at the beach and showering.

Cost of these watches: 3’250 AUD.

Watch Ya Gonna Do About It?

In terms of use, we would say it is definitely a daily wearer, We would even dare to say it is the living, breathing definition of a daily wearer. It is stylish enough to be worn at work (outdoors oriented jobs), while playing sports, while driving at the tracks, or while snorkelling at a resort with your family.  as it would change with people’s tastes and professions. A quartz watch is not everyone’s cup of tea, but for lovers practicality, it’s definitely an exceedingly good looking sports watch. It can be worn over the weekend with jeans and t-shirt. It would however look amazing at a sports event or a race event, where coincidentally it’s inspired by anyway. Given it’s big coming in at 43mm, it’s not really a dress watch and won’t be suitable for a formal occasion. As such it fits in our Fusion Friday category but not His+Her.

Given that the watch is a special edition and not a limited numbered run, we would say take your time, try it in person and go from there.

All said and done, we think this is one of the better looking Quartz options out there. The watch collection itself is an intergral part of TAG Heuer, and for lovers of motorsport racing or Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team, it’s a no brainer in terms of adding it to your collection.

Rate-a-Mate: 1000

Fusion Friday: Yes

His+Her: No

Grail-o-meter: Medium
