The Montblanc Star Legacy Product Line (Day&Date) Chronograph product line makes for the latest set of watches released from the chequered Maison that is famed for watchmaking since their journey began in 1858 when Mr. Charles-Ivan Robert founded a watch workshop in the Saint-Imier valley.

The Variations

This new Montblanc Star Legacy product line is split up into two: the date only option and the day-date option. If you want a less thick watch but with all the coolness of the new design, check out our feature on the date-only version here.

The heart used — calibre MB 25.07 — is an automatic winding mechanical movement beating at the frequency of 4Hz (28’800 A/h). The movement is encased inside a 43mm diameter and 14.76mm thick stainless steel — with polished and satin-finishing — case. It is comprised of 25 rubies, boasts of a — much better than the date only of 38 hours — 48 hours power reserve, and can be admired through a stainless steel with inset pane of sapphire crystal case-back.

The watch face shows the functions of hours and minutes in the centre, small seconds at 9’o clock, chronograph, a day/date function at 3’o clock, a 30-elapsed minute counter at 12’o clock and a 12-elapsed hour counter at 6’o clock. It is covered by a scratch-resistant, domed sapphire crystal with antireflective coating.

The dial is a beautifully understated ivory-colour with silvery-white counters & flange and a stunning Montblanc exploding star guilloché pattern with 18K rose gold-coated Roman numerals and 18K rose gold-coated luminescent leaf hour and minute hands. The dial also features 18K rose gold-coated luminescent

Additional features we admire are the designed crown that is stainless steel with Montblanc emblem, and the posh brown strap that is made of Sfumato alligator leather crafted by the Pelletteria in Florence, Italy with stainless steel triple folding clasp.

Probably the only aspect we are not big fans of is the relatively low water resistance of 50m (5 ATM).

The Configurations

The watch is also available in other configurations:

Reference number 126102: same dial, but with stainless steel bracelet.

Reference number 126081: anthracite-coloured dial and grey Sfumato alligator leather strap.

Reference number 126103: anthracite-coloured dial with a stainless steel bracelet.

Watch Ya Gonna Do About It?

The Montblanc Star Legacy Chronograph Day&Date is a stunning dressy-cum-sporty chronograph watch, especially in the anthracite-dial version. Given that the watches are not limited edition, they are something that Montblanc fans can check out at their leisure and figure out if they are the right ones for them.

The watch is perhaps not a daily wearable watch coming in at 43×14.76mm given it’s not going to fit comfortably under a cuff, but it can be paired well with jeans and t-shirts over the weekends, or even to casual Fridays at work. They retain the timeless elegance and understated beauty of the Date only versions of this new release, but the chronograph function adds a certain sportiness that will appeal to both the young and the old.

The Montblanc Star Legacy Chronograph Product Line Day&Date continues the journey of Minerva’s over 160-year legacy fine watchmaking.
